Orientation for the 2026 apprentice groups will begin on the following dates for students who have paid their deposit and are officially enrolled:

• January 6
• March 3
• May 5
• July 7
• September 1
• November 10

• Please bring the following items:
• - A fully charged laptop or tablet (preferred), or a smartphone
• - Earphones or headphones
• - A valid government-issued ID
• - A copy of your Social Security card or ITIN

1. Complete Pre-Apprenticeship (Health & Safety) Training

A. Please use your full name as it appears on your official ID

B. Once completed, click “Exit Course.” You will then see the option to “Print Certificate,” which you should select. Please share it via email to info@academyfivestar.org, with your full name in the subject line.

C. You may also text a screenshot to 909.850.5163. Please include your full name in the text message.

2. Submit “Apprentice Application Information” Form

A. Please make sure all information is correct for all parties, especially the email address.

B. Verify that the “Owner” of Establishment is the official owner on record with the State Board of Barber and Cosmetology. Office managers or other employees may not sign on behalf of the official owner.

3. An Adobe E-Sign document will be generated for your Apprentice Application. Please allow 3–5 business days.

A. Keep in mind that the digital document will be sent in the following order:

i. A – Apprentice: This is you.

ii. O – Owner: Official owner on record.

iii. T – Trainer: Your mentor and official trainer

B. Sometimes the owner and trainer are the same person. In that case, they will receive the email twice: once as the owner and once as the trainer.

4. Your Apprentice Application will be mailed to State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. The processing period is approximately 5 weeks.

A. After 5 weeks of your Apprentice Application being submitted, please check the state website to verify that your license has been issued: www.search.dca.ca.gov

i. Under “Boards and Bureaus,” select “Barbering and Cosmetology, Board of.”

ii. Enter your First and Last Name, then click “Search”. If 0 results, your license has not been issued yet.

Once the Apprentice License has been Issued:

5. Attend Intro 101 to Apprenticeship. Please see dates below.

Class meets from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m on the following dates.

After Receiving Your Apprentice License and Completing Intro 101 Class:

You will attend class once a week on Monday's. Please choose from the following class options:

Morning: 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM

Afternoon: 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM

Evening: 5:30 PM - 9:00 PM
